On arriving in our clinic you will be asked to complete a patient consent form including basic details to save in our secure archives. Then the Osteopath will come and collect you and take you to the treatment room for the appointment, which normally takes 45 minutes.
CASE HISTORY
The first part of the appointment is the case history or interview. It is in this section that the Osteopath will ask you relevent questions about your current complaint with the aim of hypothesising a diagnosis based on the findings.
EXAMINATION
Then the osteopath will then examine the area in question to test each of the theories that arose during the interview. It is then that a clearer diagnosis is made so that treatment can take place. During the examination you may be asked to undress appropriately to examine the relevent area but this is by no means necessary. But it is recommentded that you wear appropriate clothing for this aspect, shorts, vests, sports bra's.
TREATMENT
This portion of the appointment is the opportunity for the osteopath to use their skills and experienc to decide what your body requires to promote healing. This normally involves a mixture of articulation, soft tissue manipulation and a variety of techniques with individual aims. Occasionally Joint manipulations are performed to decrease pain and increase mobility but this is only occasional and comes with full consent and safety chck prior.
As stated clearly within the consent forms you have the right to ask any questions you wish and please communicate with the Osteopath if you feel uncomfortable at any time. You have the right to refuse any forms of treatment and verbal consent will be sought at all times by the osteopath.
